Giving - Its What We Do

When the generous nature of Italians combines with the Sons and Daughters of Italy mandate of giving to others, great things happen.  Through events that we host as well as the generosity of our members, we are able to assist many organizations within Manitoba.  Each year we distribute our giving to one major organization and many smaller ones.  We also ensure that the giving includes both the Italian community and the community at large.

Giving Report

During the last few years, Sons and Daughters of Italy, Garibaldi Lodge has been donating funds at an unprecedented rate.  In the last 15 years, we have donated over $1,00,000 to various charities.  We are clearly a small group with a large reach -- that amount is over $10,000 per member!

Who receives these funds?  It may surprise you to learn the scope of our giving.  While it is part of our purpose to support Italian culture, only about 25% of our giving has been to the Italian community, with 65% going to general charities, and the remainder towards scholarships and to individuals in need.

Do you Have Charitable Needs?

As various individuals and groups approach us through the year asking for donations, we have a process for our giving.  This process ensures that we can capture the information we need, that we can match the need against our giving criteria and budget and that we can make a decision in a timely basis.

This process is if you are looking for a grant / donation / sponsorship / ticket or table purchase.  If you are applying to become our annual Charity of Choice, the process is detailed here.  The donation process must start with the completion of a Grant Request Form.  Please download the form, complete it in full, attaching supplementary information that will help us understand your need, and send the signed form to us.

Please note that the process can take 6 to 10 weeks from receipt of the form to a decision.  Forms submitted without a minimum of 6 weeks in advance do not allow us to complete our process.
